  • Originally from Benin, born in Senegal and a French Citizen, Bertin Nahum created a robot called Rosa™ that assists surgeons with brain surgery though started with his first invention- a robot called BRIGIT™ that assists doctors with orthopedic surgery in providing mechanical support for sawing bones with an arm that guides the surgeon and helps him make precise cuts. Zimmer Inc., the world leader in orthopedic surgery, acquired the patent portfolio from Medtech in 2006.
  • Ethiopian-American, Dosho Tessema Shifferaw invented the Bowflex exercise machines and is the founder of Dosho Designs, Inc (DDI).
  • Ghanian-American, Douglas Osei-Hyiaman is an endocrinologist and geneticist who was the first to establish a role for "endocannabinoids in fatty acid synthesis and oxidation in the pathobiology of liver disease, obesity, and diabetes".
  • Ghanian, Asidu Abudu, has made at least 26 different inventions since he discovered his passion in sixth grade. Some of his inventions are the fufu pounding machine and a device that enable users to lock one’s car engine using one’s mobile phone or somebody else’s phone.
  • Kenyan, Anthony Mutua invented the charging shoe, which consists of thin crystal chips that are fitted to the sole of the shoe. The chips carry the current through an extension cable that extend from the shoe to the phone.
  • Malian-American Cheick Modibo Diarra is an aerospace engineer who contributed to several NASA missions such as Mars Path Finder, the Galileo spacecraft, and the Mars Observer.
  • Moroccan, Aadin Akhazine, a 29-year-old man created an engine that runs using a carburant made of 80 percent of water and 20 percent of fuel. This is not a new idea: he simply modified the “unsuccessful” idea of the American inventor Paul Pantone.
  • Nigerian, Seyi Oyesola is a medicine doctor who co-invented hospital in a box.
  • Nigerian-British, Paul Kaine is an engineer who invented a pocket electronic map, patented in France and now all over the world.
  • Rwandan born in Kenya, educated in Burundi and studied at Georgia Tech in the USA, Henri Nyakarundi builds solar-powered cell phone kiosks for his company, A.R.E.D., in Rwanda.
  • South African, Allan Cormack invented the CAT scan and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for his invention.
Carter G. Woodson "Woodson born in 1875 and obtaining in 1912 his doctorate from Harvard University- making him the second after W.E.B Dubois to achieve such heights at that time, lived as a history preserver and promoter of the endless contributions of Blacks in America. Despite the challenges as an entrepreneur, he published using various platforms and strategically promoted education and preservation of ones heritage and culture, to eventually establish in 1926 the "Negro History Week" and in 1970 celebrated "Black history Month" which was officiated in 1976, also extending the duration from a week to a month."
