Privatizations of state owned brewing companies, in Ethiopia, worth a combined $500m - sold to Heineken, Diageo and Duet Group.

PSG Africa has already made its first deal after buying CA Enterprises, a Botswana-based consumer goods distributor.

Upside Software Inc., an Edmonton-based software developer with sales in 180 countries, has found clients in both the private and public sectors In Africa (Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Nigeria).

The Pan-African Infrastructure Development Fund has backed projects including international airports in Tunisia, under-sea optical fiber cabling in Nigeria as well as power stations in Kenya and Zambia.

Jubilee Holdings says it plans to invest $10 million to set up subsidiaries in three African countries. Jubilee owns shares in Kenya Airways, Safaricom, Nation Media Group, Kenya Commercial Bank Group, Barclays and Diamond Trust Bank.

Porsche, the company hopes to sell 100 vehicles in Nigeria this year and to eventually grow sales to 300 annually. It claims its sturdy 911s and 4x4s are better able to navigate Nigeria’s potholed roads than those namby-pamby Aston Martins and Lamborghinis. Porsche already sells 800 cars per year in South Africa, and it operates dealerships in Angola and Ghana

Samsung,the company sold $2 billion worth of goods on the continent in 2011. It plans to increase this amount by 50% this year and to reach $10 billion in African sales by 2015.

East African Submarine System (EASSy) runs along the east coast of Africa, from South Africa to Sudan, and boasts onward connection to global markets. Completed on time and on budget, EASSy promises to enable affordable, reliable delivery of fast internet access for African users and enhanced voice and data services for the international marketplace. EASSy will enhance global connectivity to and from 21 countries in eastern and southern Africa, landing at nine countries: South Africa, Mozambique, Madagascar, the Comores, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia, Djibouti and Sudan.

Trade between China and Africa reached $160 billion in 2011, an increase of 28 percent from the previous year, while African exports to China increased by one-third during the same period, up from $67 billion in 2010 to $93 billion.

Diaspora= Cultural Brokers

Bill H4221, in which the African Diaspora as defined “The term ‘African Diaspora’ means the people of African origin living in the United States, irrespective of their citizenship and nationality, who are willing to contribute to the development of Africa” is identified as cultural brokers.

Diaspora mentions in the Bill H4221 Sec4.

Strategy (5) Exploring ways that African Diaspora remittances can help governments in Africa tackle economic, development, and infrastructure financing needs;

Consultations- in developing the strategy required by subsection (a), the President shall consult with… ...(8) the private sector, including businesses, nongovernmental organizations, and African Diaspora groups.

(d) Submission to Congress

3) CONTENT OF REPORT- the report required by paragraph (2) shall include an assessment of the extent to which the strategy required by subsection… (E) has been successful in helping the African Diaspora in the United States participate in economic growth in Africa;
